I understand what you say about paying Spanish tax, but there is a way with personal imports that works 99% of the time (worth taking the chance )

Hi George, as I am married to an english lady, I might reply to you. First of all you got to be resident to buy a Triumph, or any other bike in Spain. Then concerning the price, you should pay the same as any other spanish citizen. You will not save any amount for taxes, if the motorcycle got to be registred in Spain. Remember "U got to be resident in Spain" and export is not allowed by Triumph for the spanish dealers. I have had the same question from your side, an UK dealer to sell me a bike. After many emails and telephone calls, finally it wasn´t possible for the UK dealer to send the bike overseas due to internal Triumph export restrictions.[/quoteli7n3eqw]
Hi JUSTO, thanks for the reply.
I am resident in Spain . I do understand the what you say, but... Triumph cannot prevent any EU citizen buying a motorcycle in any other EU member country, it is european law of free trade within europe. However, Triumph 'might' refuse to assist in the export/import between countries, but they cannot prevent an individual from doing it themselves.
If you buy a Triumph (or any vehicle) in the UK, you can have it registered (matricular) on 'export plates', TAX exempt. You can then drive the vehicle in the UK or any other EU country for a max of one month, after that time you must either import it into another country or pay the UK taxes (VAT). So in effect, you can buy in the UK, tax free, then either ride the bike to Spain or put it on a grua... Triumph can't stop you doing this and they can't instuct they're dealers not to sell for export... that would be illegal .
Now think when it comes into Spain (either riden or grua)... the bike is already registered in the UK (it got a registration/number plate when registered in the UK), so customs won't stop it if it, because it is legally on the road for one month). Now you convince (the one possible obstacle) the Spanish authorities to register it as a personal import for a resident... tax free.
That is the short (but accurate version)... hope it helps.

are you sure? we are in EU, you can't export tax free, mainly because sales betweens countrys in EU i think its not considered a export, only a sale.
you only can't export tax free if you are a not EU citizen, like american. That its for not pay double taxes, because they going to do pay their country taxes in customs.
this is how I think is that issue. Anyway good luck.
pd you have a alternative, Islas Canarias, Aland or Livigno that regions are outside the agreemments about EU taxes

I understand what you say knACK and the same system applies to any country you want to export with UK paperwork. The vehicle is registered as 'export', that can be to the US, Canada or the EU... it makes no difference. The expectaion is that the Spanish authorities will apply tax when it is imported into Spain, but there is a loophole where it can come in as a personal import (own vehicle) tax free.
If you telephone a UK Triumph dealer and talk nicely they should tell you that you can register a new vehicle for export/tax free. I can name two dealers who will readily oblige, but they won't physically move the vehicle to another country themselves.

I am really ashamed at not speaking Spanish after living in this country for 14 years! . I had a motorcycle accident many years ago and it affected (made me retire too) my memory so learning is difficult!. The people on this forum seems very friendly and forgiving, so I am grateful and do apologise for being a dummy.
I do have all the official details about buying tax free in the UK and can post if anyone is interested, the Spanish import side of things I cannot say that I am 100%, but I have advice from a vehicle importer.
