The The World Supersport Championship is set for the new upcoming season. On Friday, at 9.30 local time, Gianluca Nannelli and local hero Garry McCoy will take to the Australian Phillip Island circuit for the first test session as the new season for the medium cylinder series derivatives gets underway. They will race on the brand new 2009 Daytona 675, that ParkinGO BE1 Racing developped last winter. The two Triumph riders will compete against the four Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. Five brands are represented this year with 30 permanently registered riders. Italy and Australia alone, with 6 and 5 riders respectively make up over a third of the entire grid. Other nations represented include Spain, France, Holland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Great Britain, Ireland, Portugal, Japan, Denmark, Poland, Germany and Indonesia. All new season's races will be aired live by Eurosport.
ParkinGO BE1 Racing eagerly awaits the start of the new season as the team has received official status. "We expect great things this season - says team manager Giuliano Rovelli - last year we were rookies but now we are one of the better teams. We know that all eyes are on us and we hope to improve last year's results. In order to do so, we have acquired some new valuable riders and we will be relying on their wealth of experience. They are definitely looking forward to competing in this season's WSS. The results we had during the pre-season tests are reassuring and our goal for next season is to get a podium result until the end of the competition".
